armaina Here, this is the first year of the Dreamwidth mirror of ArtSlam and I hope everyone has fun! I've decided to match the original site as much as possible to keep things cohesive. With the rise in Dreamwidth users I hope it'll be just as fun over here as well as provide a place for those that left Livejournal.

There is also a sister Tumblr over at WordJam if you'd like to have a go just at writing. The WordJam aspect will be more relaxed than NaNoWriMo standards: there will be no hard limits that you have to meet. There is no Word Jam community on LJ or DW as far as I'm aware of but if anyone has something like it I wouldn't mind plugging it at all here.
ABOUT ARTSLAM
ArtSlam runs from June 1st to August 31st, providing a summer-long challenge that is simple on the surface: draw something every day. For this community, we prefer that you pick a concept and stick with it for at least one month. If you have a world that you want to explore with art, or a set of characters, this is a great place to do it! If you're shaky with perspective, background art, anatomy, or just really want to draw 30 pandas, you can hone your focus that-a-way, too.
What constitutes 'a drawing a day'? A sketch works -- preferably one where we can see what you're trying to communicate. Finishing an image takes more time, so noticeable progress on a single piece works, too.
Fill this info out and post it up as a comment, please! I'll begin adding new users tags to our list for June 1st. In the meantime, check back and leave comments as you like!

Tasks would be to make sure nothing outside of guidelines are posted and that tags are kept orderly as well as helping keep up with achievements.

Concept: Any and all personal projects. I won't be focusing on one specifically unless I get inspiration to but ultimately it'll go to at least one of my projects
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: IDK since I was like 9? I love putting stuff in my head on paper for people to see

What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: Just getting back into the swing of things in general. Maybe I'll tackle the intimidating beast that is backgrounds

Concept:
My theme for this slam is explore.

Possibly a Mark Twain quote, you never know with the internet.
Basically I'm going to have a lot of fun with different mediums, both traditional and digital. Looking to get outta my doodle comfort zone, and just play. Explore as a theme will probably show up in other ways as well. My slam this year might become very arts-fartsy, you've been warned;)
I'm so psyched for this. Picked up some oils and a full set of Coloursoft pencils this winter... and then had no time to do anything with them. This is going to be awesome:D:D:D:D

Not at the moment no, haven't done much other than the occasional doodle due to work and study taking up my time te last 6+ months. My last exam will be in a little over a week and I finally get to do other stuff;) Planning on letting art take over a good part of the study time, so that's something to build on from there.

Concept: I am going to be working on vector design. I want to get better at designing logos and typography, and learn the tricks of the trade, as well as how to use at least one toolsuite for it (inkscape). Topic focus is mostly fantasy logos and other design fluff but it depends on what I'm studying that day.

What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: Technical skills; a lot of my reluctance with vector has to do with very literally not knowing how to get from point A to point B. So I'll be watching other peoples' workflows.

= I started drawing as a little kid. I continued to do so since it was the only really positive thing in my life and it helped me get all these weird ideas i had out on paper.
Now I take those weird ideas and make them in 3d.

= I'd like to pin down more of my stylization and color usage. I'd also like to get better at exaggerating my shapes and forms.

Links: i'm a nervous fool about giving out my art urls
Concept: mainly, i hope to be working on things to either: a. keep my (furry primarily, but also nonfurry) art accounts active/have examples for commissions, or b. explore some of the ideas i've been tossing around in my head for years. i'll be primarily working either in watercolor or digital media.
i'd like to work on furry character designs, just for examples not specifically for development of characters/stories, because i've been struggling to get outside of what i think is "respectable" character design which is just stifling. i'm also not really familiar with how i want to approach anthros, because i'm really kinda new to it?? so anatomy and making it look like the animal its based on is going to be a heavy focus there.
i've been vaguely considering taking steps towards making a casual webcomic again, like building up something that i'm not so emotionally attached to that perfectionism takes over, but we'll see. the last comic i did crashed and burned because of me going back to school and it devouring my life.
lastly, and most unlikely of them all considering i'm mainly working on a netbook, i'd like to get back into either recording or streaming my work to put up on youtube, etc. the last recording i did was extremely choppy so it's probably not going to be a thing.

francis bacon, cassandra complex (RI artist), william blake, idk. i have a hard time keeping track of artists online so nothing comes to mind there.
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?:
as a kid, like i don't even remember when, but i got into it more when i encountered The Anime TM in middle school. i like a lot of things about it, like it gives me a way to express myself and get out emotions and concepts, and i like telling stories so comics has always been a thing i've wanted (and done? a little bit?) to do. the things i dislike are i guess more Prominent, which is the amount of energy and how much joint pain i'm in without throwing in working on art, but its literally my job. even if i didn't go to school for it (i wasn't originally going to school for shit) it would still be like the only thing i'd want to do with my life.
What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?:
tbh i'd like to improve on my ability to complete things, quickly, but well. having a degenerative joint disease is still p new to me and i have lost a lot of my ability to work steadily/continuously now that i am out of school and therefore not Required to.

Concept: Flowers! Specifically, I'd like to become better at drawing/painting various types of flowers, instead of just the few I do now. I also just got into clay work, and most of what I've done so far is flowers. I'm hoping that figuring out how to sketch flowers better will help me sculpt them better.
Who is your favourite artist or author? Links?: Favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. Favorite artists are way too many (I think I'm following like 800 on dA alone...)
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: As long as I can remember, tbh, I've been doodling at least. I like decorating things with my drawings.

Concept: I'd like to work on creature design skills, so I'll start out with studies/sketches of (party of) animals (and plants and possibly humans). August I want to take part in the Smaugust challenge and draw dragons. Not sure yet what to do in July.
What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: ... consistency. I've been trying the daily drawing (or at least having a drawing to post each day) for a while now, and keep breaking streak :P)

Concept: Planning on drawing up some species from an alien world I've been illustrating for a long time now. Just general worldbuilding stuff for this place.
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: I've been drawing pretty much the same sort of thing I do now since Preschool; monsters and that sort of thing. My favorite thing about it has to be exploring the worlds in my art.

Concept: Work on more pages for my coloring books. I'd like to actually draw some pages with boys since I pretty much only have some pages with girls so far.
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: Idk, probably about seven I liked to doodle, but got more serious when I started to read fantasy novels at like eleven? I really like telling a story with an image and creating characters. And fashion.
What's one thing you'd like to improve on the most over this summer?: Poses and anatomy. I didn't draw for about four years so I'm pretty shaky about those two things.

Concept: I've decided to work on environments more this year, and what better way to do it than with Art Slam? Last year I had absolutely no goal, did all the random stuff, and it was hard not being able to figure out what to draw next. With a goal, I hope I can remain more focused! I might also do a few miscellaneous things in between, but environments will be the goal! I really want to improve on them. I'll try to sketch them in some pictures, maybe do some traditionally with ink, and try digital in others!
