June 2019 Sign Ups

INTRO
It's Art Slam's third year on Dreamwidth. Got some extra help this year, should be faster with the tags this year.
FYI
Just to make sure it's clear, you can find the original community and all it's really awesome backlog at
ArtSlam has an official Discord server if you'd like to join
https://discord.gg/4NPsgqk
Additionally there is a Tumblr Mirror ArtSlam on Tumblr this is not managed by any art slam staff, here.
There is also a sister Tumblr over at WordJam if you'd like to have a go just at writing. The WordJam aspect will be more relaxed than NaNoWriMo standards: there will be no hard limits that you have to meet. There is no Word Jam community on LJ or DW as far as I'm aware of but if anyone has something like it I wouldn't mind plugging it at all here.
ABOUT ARTSLAM
ArtSlam runs from June 1st to August 31st, providing a summer-long challenge that is simple on the surface: draw something every day. For this community, we prefer that you pick a concept and stick with it for at least one month. If you have a world that you want to explore with art, or a set of characters, this is a great place to do it! If you're shaky with perspective, background art, anatomy, or just really want to draw 30 pandas, you can hone your focus that-a-way, too.
What constitutes 'a drawing a day'? A sketch works -- preferably one where we can see what you're trying to communicate. Finishing an image takes more time, so noticeable progress on a single piece works, too.
Fill this info out and post it up as a comment, please! I'll begin adding new users tags to our list for June 1st. In the meantime, check back and leave comments as you like!

Concept:
I'll be inking the comic pages I started in 2018's Artslam for a NSFW comic called Everwood. See the DW community above for lots of writing and art!
You can also find me on the Artslam Discord in an 18+ channel (restricted initially unless you're over the age of consent and request the 18+ role), where I'll post daily screen-caps of progress and make lots of bad tree jokes.

(Uncertain about my time. I have a 6+week job this summer, starting mid-June. When it’s not, I’ll be slamming. Is that OK?)
Links: DW Art List
Concept: Honestly, I just need to get into a consistent practice of making art everyday—my summer of anti-slack. Plus, exploring mediums, modes and degrees of rawness/polish.
What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: Not letting insecurity lock me into my comfort zone (funny cartoon).
Have you participated in past ArtSlams? Which ones?: first one, so let me know if I’m not doing something right.

Getting some exploration in is a great way to spend the 'slam--we're very chill on the DW group so there's no judgement, and the discord group can be hopping with kind comments, too.
Looking forward to seeing what new progress you make! :)

Goal at ArtSlam signup: 1 month
Links: Instagram | Tumblr
Concept: I want to get better at anatomy, so prepare to see some naked bods
Who is your favourite artist or author? Links?: Shanen or epseelutely in Tumblr :)
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: Five years ago, and well, I love that you can just forget about the world when you're in "the zone".
What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: Aside from my social skills? Anatomy, as stated above.
Have you participated in past ArtSlams? Which ones?: Nope!

We've developed an unofficial theme over the years that is totally voluntary: World-Building-Wednesdays, Fanart-Fridays (historically meant to draw renditions of other artslam participants' characters), and Smutterday, which is for any NSFW whims. Beyond that, you can post every day, or share progress when you want--so long as you aim to get a little done every day! If you succeed this month and want to join us for longer, July sign-ups will begin near the end of June and run until just before July 1st.
Looking forward to seeing your art!

Goal at ArtSlam signup: Easy/one month.
Concept: Abstract or highly stylized linework.
Who is your favourite artist or author? Links?: Ursula Vernon is a likely current answer.
When did you start drawing? What do you love about it the most?: Irregularly, when my pottery teacher pushed us to. I like carving my pots; if I'm trying something that's not a minor variation on a design I've done before, it really does help if I sketch first, but I've never gotten in the habit.
What's one thing you'd like to improve in the most over this summer?: I'd like to play with and develop some design ideas, and actually get in the habit of sketching. (Bonus points for brushwork practice.)
Have you participated in past ArtSlams? Which ones?: Nope! I'm a newbie, and in a weird genre. It'll be exciting?

One thing I really like about this is building up the habit of creating at least something. I hope you find it fun and enjoyable as well :D

It's really quiet? I've leapt in with a handful of rough sketches, which feels odd to do first as a newbie. Please let me know if I'm doing this wrong or should be posting to my journal and linking or something.
